Couples Events

There’s nothing more powerful or thrilling than seeing a couple come to Christ and a whole new family transformed for all Eternity.  Reach out to the couples you know from work, neighborhood, clubs and associations, sports as well as through your children. Look for ways to do things with the husbands of the women in your life.  Quite often, it’s the wife who comes to Christ first.

New Neighbors

Reach out to new couples when they first move into your neighborhood.   Quite often when a family is going through a major change, they are most open.  On moving day, take them a delicious loaf of bread from a bakery and info about the neighborhood or local shopping.  Give them your phone number in case they have any questions or you can help in any way.  I can’t tell you how many times neighbors have come back later and told us how we were the only ones to greet them or how much our visit meant to them.

Military Families

Military families say that quite often other families do not bother to reach out to them because they know that they are probably going to move in a couple of years.  They are lonely and quite often do not have family near by.  Include them in your family holidays.

Internationals

Do not hesitate because their cultural backgrounds are different than yours.  Ask questions, learn about them and build relationships.  Everyone just wants to know that someone else cares.  They are curious about Americans and what they do.  Invite them for any holiday.  A patriotic picnic or Thanksgiving is a good one to start with.  I can still remember the family from a communist country that we invited to our family’s Fourth of July picnic and fireworks. This allowed our children to learn about different parts of the world from our international guests as well.

Couples Bible Discussion Groups

Hosting and leading a small group of married couples in your home for an evening can help develop and strengthen Christian marriages.  The Family Life “Home-Builders Couples Series” does a wonderful job developing small group biblically based materials for couples to use to strengthen their marriages, develop supportive relationships with other couples and have fun!  You can order these on line at www.familylifetoday/small group studies.com

Text Box: Moving Day Party
If you are moving out of your home or apartment, plan a party and invite your friends to come over. Tell them to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on and coolers full of water and soda. The coolers make a wonderful seat as well!
You can have a pot luck dinner, a bar-b-que or order pizza. One time we had a build your own ice. cream sundae party and everyone brought different toppings to share.
Most movers will not move plants, paint, flammable materials, cleaning products, charcoal, etc., so we gather and share a meal, and then we clean and divide up the items the movers will not take. We also pray over our friends before they leave the next day. The old adage, `Many hands make light the work' is very true!
